CORTLAND, N.Y. -- With Hofstra unable to host a training camp practice next month, Stony Brook University offered to step in.

Seawolves athletic director Jim Fiore said the university was willing to host the Jets' "Family Night" practice on Aug. 21.

"The Jets have an open invitation," Fiore told Newsday Tuesday.

But a Jets spokesperson said that "given the logistics and timing, we felt holding this year's practice at MetLife Stadium was the best option."

Hofstra announced last week that it would not be able to host the practice because of several factors, including the second presidential debate and the timing of several campus maintenance projects within Shuart Stadium. In the press release, the Jets maintained their commitment to Long Island fans.

At the time of Hofstra's cancellation, the Jets' operations team was in the process of moving players to Cortland, and unable to make the multiple site visits required to find alternative locations, a team spokesperson said.
