Tebow in 'outstanding' shape, says Rex
Not surprisingly, the Jets new backup quarterback arrived for the their offseason program in great shape.
Rex Ryan said Tim Tebow is in “outstanding shape” -- but so is starting quarterback Mark Sanchez, the head coach quickly noted.
"Both those guys are in phenomenal shape,” he said.
This was the first week coaches could be on the field with players.
Though the team still is in the beginning stages of its offseason program, Ryan is pumped to see what new offense coordinator Tony Sparano has up his sleeve, as it relates to the Wildcat.
“He’s got a great vision for Tim, all we want to do with him,” Ryan said of Sparano. “I think it is exciting to have a young guy that has experience in the playoffs, that is learning the system, and I think is an excellent back-up quarterback. This guy is an outstanding football player, so we’ll see what we can come up with.”
Sanchez said he’s up to 230 pounds, roughly five pounds heavier than what he played at last season. Ryan also noted linebacker Bart Scott has lost some weight and Santonio Holmes’ calves look bigger.
Ryan wasn’t surprised Tebow made it onto NFL Network’s Top 100 players list.
of 2012 list, as voted on by current NFL players, is a meaningful honor.
“That’s really saying something about the young man,” the head coach said of his back-up QB, who was ranked No. 95 following his play last season in Denver.
“Everybody recognizes the competitiveness, and the guy’s a winner, there’s no question. People are tired of me saying it, but how do you not describe this guy as a football player? Because that’s what he is. He’s got size, he’s got strength, he’s got speed, and he can throw the football. So I feel fortunate.”
