Tim Tebow 'shocked' at GQ spread
CORTLAND – Tim Tebow’s GQ spread apparently was news to him.
The Jets backup quarterback said he was unaware that the men’s magazine had run a cover story, despite not having talked to Tim this entire offseason.
“Honestly, I didn’t even know until – actually, probably most of you knew that I was on there before I knew. So it kind of was a shocker for me,” he said. “It was something that I think I did maybe six years ago in college. Honestly the first time I heard (it) was when we were in the cafeteria and it was on ESPN. That’s when I found out.”
According to a team spokesman, GQ had reached out to Tebow earlier in the offseason for a sitdown interview, but he declined. But the magazine went ahead and ran a cover story on him and used old photos from his college days at Florida.
On of those pictures – which shows Tebow standing with his arms out to his sides -- drew criticisms for its suggestion of the crucifixion.
Tebow, a devout Christian, said he doesn’t even remember taking the photo.
“Was I trying to do anything as far as the crucifix? Absolutely not,” he said. “I mean, I don’t know – it was six years ago. I don’t even remember what I was doing, but I wasn’t trying to do anything like that though.”
