The Jets signed running back Chris Ivory to a three-year deal, a source confirmed to Newsday Saturday.

Ivory's deal was previously reported to be worth $10 million, plus incentives, according to NFL Network -- but the running back's contract actually costs the Jets far less: $6 million total, with a $2.25 million signing bonus, per ESPNNewYork.com

NFLPA records show Ivory's base salary for 2013 is just $750,000.

The Jets traded their fourth-round pick in this year's draft for the former Saint. Ivory, 25, rushed for just 217 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries in 2012 and compiled just 1,307 total rushing yards and eight touchdowns over the past three seasons in New Orleans.

Here's the upside: Ivory doesn't too much wear and tear on him because he was stuck behind Mark Ingram, Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas. It's worth nothing, however, that he was hampered by injuries throughout his tenure in New Orleans and was a healthy inactive for much of the last season.

But Ivory has big plans for his Jets career. In fact, the former Saint told NOLA.com Friday that he expects to "put up some crazy numbers in New York."

And the Jets are just as high on him. Said general manager John Idzik: "He’s a very physical, violent runner. He’s got size, he’s got speed, he runs with attitude, he plays with attitude and I think you’ve seen that in our players that we’ve drafted so far the last two days.

"You’re going to feel it in our locker room, you’re going to feel it on our practice field in training camp, so I think that’s a real healthy element that Chris brings to us."
