Woody reaches out to rival Giants; Polian snubs Jets
And so it begins ... the endless speculation surrounding the next Jets GM.
In addition to 49ers front office exec Tom Gamble, the Jets have also requested permission to interview Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross.
And the Giants agreed.
"Everything I see from people like yourselves says that Marc's the hot prospect," GM Jerry Reese said. "We’ll see. Marc has done a terrific job for us. If he ends up going somewhere else, it will be a loss for us, but we’ll be happy for him if that’s the way it goes down."
Ross is the leading candidate for the Carolina Panthers' GM opening, according to ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter. But it's not hard to see why the Jets also would be interested in him. He's a trusted guy in the Giants' process, having helped Reese key in on stud defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.
Jets owner Woody Johnson also reportedly tried to gauge Bill Polian's interest in filling the GM vacancy. But, according to a report in USA TODAY, the former Colts GM has no interest.
