Dave Caldwell will meet today with owner Woody Johnson, according to NFL writer Adam Caplan. Tom Gamble -- the presumed favorite -- is set to meet with the Jets on Saturday.

But here's an interesting nugget from Rich Cimini of "The word on the street is that the Jets are telling potential candidates they won't be considered unless they agree to keep Rex Ryan for a year."

First off: That means Ryan will certainly be back in 2013.

Despite Johnson's Monday-morning statement ensuring the Jets coach would return, there was speculation Ryan could be a goner after he suddenly cancelled his season-end presser and his weekly appearance on ESPN radio.

Secondly: That's quite a corner for Johnson to paint himself in, no? The franchise is in turmoil (no set starting QB for next season, all three coordinators could be gone, etc.), and yet, GM candidates are being told Ryan is part of the deal regardless.

I thought beggars couldn't be choosers?
