Nothing but Jets
New York Jets news, commentary and insider info from beat writer Kimberley A. Martin.
Rex Ryan had made the mistake of looking too far ahead – and it cost him and his players.
Despite repeated questions Monday about the organization’s refusal to fully throw its support behind rookie Geno Smith, Ryan maintains it’s better to take the week-to-week approach when it comes to the Jets’ starting quarterback.
“I think you get in trouble when you put dates on things instead of...Read more »
Jeremy Kerley didn’t hesitate.
Despite sporting a red non-contact jersey just a little while earlier, the Jets slot receiver declared Tuesday he was ready to face the Buffalo Bills.
“A-1,” said Kerley, who suffered a concussion in Week 1 after being hit by Bucs safety Mark Barron.
He also said he began to feel better a few days after “getting out of the fog a little bit.”

Both Quinton Coples and Muhammad Wilkerson were on the practice field Monday morning – a potentially good sign heading into Sunday’s game against the AFC East rival Bills.
Coples has been a bystander at practice of late after undergoing a procedure on his right ankle. The outside linebacker, and 16th overall pick in 2012, was in shells Monday – along with Wilkerson, who was forced to leave...Read more »
In a surprising move, the Jets announced Monday that they waived punter Robert Malone and re-signed Ryan Quigley.
Malone -- who was signed last year to replace T.J. Conley -- had been solid for the club. But he also had a bad game Thursday night against the rival Patriots, averaging 44.6 yards (36.6 net) on nine attempts, including a 21-yard punt in the second quarter from the New England...Read more »
As expected, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be without his top three targets for Thursday night's matchup with the Jets.
Wide receiver Danny Amendola (groin) and tight end Rob Gronkowski are both inactive, along with running back Shane Vereen -- who was placed on injured reserve (with a designation to return) after undergoing wrist surgery.
Also inactive for the Patriots: RB Brandon...Read more »
From the moment Rex Ryan joined the Jets and identified Patriots coach Bill Belichick as Public Enemy No. 1, tension between the two AFC East rivals was ratcheted up to new emotional heights. Ryan hasn’t kissed Belichick’s Super Bowl rings, as he swore he wouldn’t, but neither has he knocked the Patriots off their perch as division champs the past four seasons.
But Ryan and the Jets will always...Read more »

As expected, the Jets have ruled out slot receiver Jeremy Kerley for Thursday night's game in Foxborough.
He was diagnosed Monday with a concussion, prompting the team to re-sign wideout Ben Obomanu.
OLB Quinton Coples (ankle) also has been ruled out, along with QB Mark Sanchez. The fifth-year quarterback told reporters Monday that getting a second opinion on his injured right...Read more »
During Tuesday night's "Total Access" on NFL Network, former Jet LaDainian Tomlinson said Rex Ryan once joked before a Patriots game that he was going to set the tone by hitting Bill Belichick when both coaches met at midfield.
"Rex is a master motivator, and it was going to be a big game, a heated rivalry game," Tomlinson, now a NFLN analyst said. "Rex got in front...Read more »
Jets K Nick Folk was named the AFC's special teams player of the week for his Week 1 performance against Tampa Bay.
Folk connected on three of his field goals, including a game-winning 48-yarder with two seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to help the Jets beat the Bucs, 18-17.
It was his fourth regular-season game-winning field goal since joining the Jets in 2010.
