Nothing but Jets
New York Jets news, commentary and insider info from beat writer Kimberley A. Martin.
Last week I sat down with Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn to discuss Bilal Powell. But at the tailend of our conversation, I picked Lynn's brain on Long Island's own Miguel Maysonet, who was was added to the Jets practice squad last Tuesday.
Unfortunately for all of Long Island, the former Stony Brook star was released yesterday. Though the decision to part ways with Maysonet had more...Read more »
The Jets announced Wednesday morning that they had signed former Patriots cornerback Ras-I Dowling to the practice squad.
The former second-round pick of the Patriots in 2011 ended the past two seasons on injured reserve due to injury.
The Jets released Long Island's Miguel Maysonet from the practice squad Tuesday in order to create room for Dowling....Read more »
Following the Tuesday arrest of four fans involved in a brawl at MetLife Stadium Sunday, the Jets issued a statement.
"We have zero tolerance for this behavior," the team said. "Consistent with our Fan Code of Conduct, those involved have been banned from attending any events at the stadium. Once the legal process has run its course, each of them must take the necessary steps...Read more »
For the second time in two weeks, Geno Smith is a Pepsi Next Rookie of the Week nominee.
The Jets quarterback – who received the honor after leading the Jets to a Week 5 win in Atlanta – again is in the running following his performance against the Patriots. Smith threw for 233 passing yards, rushed for 32 and had two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) in the Jets' 30-27 overtime victory...Read more »
After yet another comeback win for the Jets, one that leaves them one game behind the Patriots for second place in the AFC East, it's easy to forget the pervading theme of this up-and-down-and-up-and-down-and-up-and-down-and-up season: Geno Smith's inconsistent play remains a worrisome wild card.
The Jets defense, which has deservedly received a great deal of praise this season, is largely...Read more »
The Jets announced Monday afternoon that they have chosen to activate David Garrard to 53-man roster and release fellow quarterback Brady Quinn.
Garrard, 35, re-joined the team on Oct. 10 and was placed on the Jets' exempt list for two games. The team had until 4 p.m. Monday to decide whether they wanted to add him to their active roster or stick with Quinn. Garrard, a nine-year NFL veteran,...Read more »
In the aftermath of the Jets’ electrifying win over the hated Patriots, the questions mostly centered on the controversial call that changed the complexion of the game: the unexpected FG “pushing” penalty on Pats defensive lineman Chris Jones that gave Nick Folk another chance to be the hero in a 30-27 victory in overtime.
Everyone wanted to know whether Rex Ryan knew about the Patriots’...Read more »
Tom Brady entered Week 7 with a lower completion percentage than Geno Smith. And by the end of overtime Sunday afternoon, the future Hall of Famer had been outplayed by his rookie counterpart.
“Losing sucks, and especially to the Jets,” the Patriots quarterback said during his weekly Monday morning radio appearance on Boston’s WEEI.
Brady finished 22 of 46 for 228 yards, but he was sacked...Read more »
Jets right guard Willie Colon said he overheard the referees say Sunday that they had warned the Patriots on a previous field-goal attempt about pushing. But the game -- a stunning 30-27 Jets' win -- wasn’t the first time New England's employed the tactic.
During the Patriots' dramatic come-from-behind win over the Saints last week, defensive tackle Chris Jones pushed teammate Will Svitek...Read more »
As expected, Rob Gronkowski is active for Sunday’s Jets-Patriots rematch.
Despite a little gamesmanship from coach Bill Belichick -- who listed Gronkowski as questionable on Friday’s injury report – it was assumed the Pat tight end would make his season debut against the Jets.
Gronkowski's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, announced Friday morning that his client had been medically-cleared to play...Read more »
