The Jets announced Friday that they placed their franchise tag on kicker Nick Folk.
It’s the first time the Jets have exercised their franchise tag since 2011, when they placed it on linebacker David Harris.
Folk, who had a career year in 2013, made $780,000 last season. But the franchise-tag amount for kickers is projected to be $3.556 million.

Rex Ryan had hoped his team would be well represented in Hawaii.
But not one Jet – not even defensive stud Muhammad Wilkerson – was named to the 2014 Pro Bowl. Instead, center Nick Mangold and Wilkerson, a third-year defensive end, were selected as first alternates. For the second time this season, Nick Folk has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Jets kicker converted all four field-goal attempts (39, 21, 47 and 45 yards) in the Jets’ 26-20 win over New Orleans. H is now 23-for-23 to start the season -- the longest streak of field goals made in the NFL. It's also the longest in franchise history.

Jets K Nick Folk was named the AFC's special teams player of the week for his Week 1 performance against Tampa Bay.
Folk connected on three of his field goals, including a game-winning 48-yarder with two seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to help the Jets beat the Bucs, 18-17.
It was his fourth regular-season game-winning field goal since joining the Jets in 2010.

The Jets kicking competition rages on -- without Billy Cundiff.
The team announced Tuesday morning that they have released Cundiff and signed former Pro Bowl kicker Dan Carpenter.
The Jets signed Cundiff last month to compete with incumbent Nick Folk during training camp. Cundiff hit all three of his field-goal attempts this preseason (30, 26 and 32 yards) as well as all four extra points.
