Hill sidelined by hamstring injury
Last week, the Jets announced seventh-round wide receiver Jordan White will be out until training camp with a fracture bone is his foot.
This week, Stephen Hill is on the shelf.
The Jets’ second-round wideout has been a spectator this week after tweaking his right hamstring during Tuesday’s OTA session. Head coach Rex Ryan said Hill’s injury doesn’t seem “major,” but the team obviously will be cautious.
The former Georgia Tech wide receiver agreed, adding that an MRI was not necessary.
“A lot of tightness, that’s all it is,” Hill said in the locker room Thursday. “Nowhere near a tear. (Head trainer) John (Mellody) is doing a great job in the training room with me…and I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
Hill said he expects to be back in action for next week’s mini-camp, but he won’t rush his recovery.
“I’m going to come back as quick as I can,” he said. “But I don’t want to rush it to the point where I hurt it for the season.”
Prior to the injury, Hill had looked “tremendous” in practice, according to Ryan – and that only made the timing of the hamstring injury tougher to deal with said the wide receiver.
“Oh, it’s real frustrating,” Hill said, “especially seeing some of the other guys go down last week. And now you’re down just a little bit. I’m just going to keep positive and staying in the playbook as much as possible, and take mental reps.”
