Jason Hill has moved on from 'overhyped' diss
Jason Hill never expected he’d be here in New York – the market he called “overhyped” just a year ago.
But thanks to Santonio Holmes’ season-ending foot injury, the former Jacksonville wideout found himself in New Jersey around 9 p.m. Monday night.
Hill had been in New Orleans working out with the Saints when he received a call from his agent, Peter Schaffer.
“‘Stop that workout there,’” he recalled his agent saying. “And I got here as soon as possible.”
“Here” is Florham Park – a town nestled in a New York media market that tends to overhype teams…including the Jets.
At least that’s how Hill felt a year ago, according to the Florida Times-Union. During an interview last September, the former Jaguars wideout was quoted as saying cornerback Darrelle Revis is a good player who “just made a lot more plays on TV than we’ve made being here in Jacksonville” and “the whole New York is overhyped.”On his first day with his new teammates, Hill wasn’t in the mood to dwell on the past.
Asked if anyone on the Jets joked around with him about his comments about Revis and the Jets, he said “no.” Asked jokingly if he wanted to take back the comments now, Hill gave a “no comment.”
When another reporter asked if his comments were “overhyped,” the wideout said: “I don’t know. You have to ask the lady who did that interview and here the whole transcript to get the understanding of it.
“I didn’t think anything of it. I don’t think our team down in Jacksonville thought anything of it. But obviously, up here you all did. But it’s in the past, we’re teammates now and we’re going to move forward accordingly.”
Hill still is getting acclimated to Tony Sparano’s offense and because he didn’t watch too many Jets games prior to the signing, he said he doesn’t know what to expect.
“I guess I’ll just get into it as we go,” he said.
Despite not having worked out with the Jets, Hill said he didn’t question Schaffer’s advice.
“I have a great agent and I believe what he says” he said. “And obviously, this was a good opportunity for me. And we’ll see where I take it.”
