Jets reportedly interviewing Van Gorder for LB job

The Jets are interviewing former Falcons and Auburn defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder for their vacant linebackers job, according to the Newark Star-Ledger and USA Today.

Van Gorder, who was hired by Auburn on Jan. 9, 2012, was one of nine assistants who were told by new coach Gus Malzahn that they would not be retained, according to AuburnUndercover.com. Prior to returning to the college ranks, Van Gorder ran the Falcons defense from 2008-2011.

The Jets announced five new coaching hires on Tuesday, but still need to hire a replacement for former assistant head coach/linebackers coach Bob Sutton. Despite speculation Rex Ryan would want to hire his brother Rob for the position, Rob Ryan is expected to be named the Saints' new DC.
