Jets sign CB Torrence; waive Vakapuna/Wilson

CORTLAND -- The Jets tweaked their ever-changing roster again on Wednesday, parting ways with fullback Fui Vakapuna and safety Tracy Wilson.

Vakapuna seemed to get lost in the shuffle of fullbacks and Wilson (five games, five tackles in 2011) failed to stand out among the rest of the defensive backs.
The Jets wasted no time searching for more secondary help, though.

The signed former Ohio State cornerback Devon Torrence, who was a member of the Bengals’ practice squad for four months last season, was signed by the Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent in July 2011.

Torrence (6-0, 190) originally started his collegiate career as a wide receiver before switching to corner his sophomore season. He started 23 games and recorded 91 tackles as a member of the 2009 Rose Bowl championship team.

In college, Torrence was touted for his football I.Q. and zone-coverage. But the question mark surrounding his game is whether he can be just as good in man-coverage.
