Jets sign KR/WR Josh Cribbs and WR Salas
A day after Rex Ryan hinted the Jets were looking for "a playmaker," a source confirmed to Newsday that the team plans to sign Josh Cribbs Tuesday.
The Jets have shown interest in Cribbs since the offseason. The former Browns kick returner and wide receiver worked out for the Jets in May, though Jets general manager John Idzik told reporters Cribbs "wasn't quite" fully-healed from a meniscus tear. Cribbs also worked out for the Jets two weeks ago.
With receiver Clyde Gates suffering "damage" in his left shoulder, according to Ryan, and running back Mike Goodson (MCL, ACL) set to be placed on injured reserve, a roster move seemed imminent.
During his weeky ESPN radio spot, Ryan acknowledged the Jets were looking to add a wide receiver or running back.
"I think we're in the market to look at anything that can help our team," he said. "With Goodson out, we'll need a playmaker . . . We'll certainly be looking."
According to reports out of Philly, the Jets also have signed former Hawaii wide receiver Greg Salas off the Eagles practice squad. He will be a member of the Jets' 53-man roster.
Salas, a fourth-round pick of the Rams in 2011, was traded to the Patriots in September 2012 in exchange for a fifth-round pick. Two weeks later he was released, but was re-signed to the practice squad. The Patriots released Salas in November 2012 and he was claimed off waivers by the Eagles.
