Manziel not convinced QB position 'suits' Tebow

There are several questions surrounding "Johnny Football" entering this season that may affect his draft stock. The first is whether or not he'd even declare (He's a redshirt sophomore, thus satisfying the NFL’s “three years removed from high school” rule). The next is whether his Heisman-winning freshman year was the real deal or just a flash in the pan. Still another is whether he’s emotionally mature enough to handle off-field pressures at the next level. If all of these questions get answered, the electrifying Manziel could make a strong run at a high first-round pick. (Credit: AP)

Johnny Manziel is only 20 years old, but he’s already convinced he’s a better quarterback than Tim Tebow.

“I would hope that I’m a better passer than Tim Tebow,” the recent Heisman Trophy winner said during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take. “Hopefully, I wouldn't have to go into an offseason and work on my mechanics because, as a freshman and as a redshirt freshman, I tried to work on that before I even got into this position where I would have to be questioned about that.”

After Tebow’s once-promising career flatlined with the Jets in 2012, he spent much of his offseason seeking instruction from various coaches – most notably, ex-Jets QB Vinny Testaverde. On Monday, Tebow signed a two-year, free-agent deal with New England.

“He's a great person, he deserves this chance that he's getting in the NFL,” said the Texas A&M QB. “I do truly believe that from the bottom of my heart.”

But he’s no convinced Tebow has the mettle to make it at the QB position.

“As far as being a starting quarterback in the NFL, I don't know if that really suits him,” said the SEC QB. “I think the Patriots will be a great place for Tim Tebow. I think that with all the places he could've gone, being with (Coach Bill) Belichick and what they do and just how that whole organization is, I think it is a great fit for him. I just don't hang on one throw in one game in the playoffs.”
