Before Calvin Pace addressed the most pressing issue of the day – Darrelle Revis’ ACL injury – the Jets linebacker felt it necessary to clarify his post-game comments about Reggie Bush.

Pace said he meant nothing malicious when he told a small group of reporters “we had to put him out.”

“Just to let you all know, I’m not answering any questions about any game stuff,” he began Monday. “Apparently I said something about Reggie Bush trying to get him out of the game. I wasn’t trying to say it like we were trying to hurt him. I’m sad to see him get hurt.

“We aren’t running any bounty system or anything like that. And actually looking at the play, someone just fell on his knee. So it wasn’t anything malicious. That’s all I got to say.”

Bush racked up 61 first-half rushing yards prior to him suffering a knee injury with 23 seconds to go in the second quarter. After the game, Pace was asked about the Jets’ inability to stop the Dolphins running back.

“I guess he was doing his thing for a quarter or two,” he said of Bush. “We had to put him on out. We didn’t see him again.”

Pace said Monday that “a little birdie” (most likely, the Jets PR director) informed him that the league caught wind of his comment, but according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL does not plan to punish Pace

"(I meant it) just in terms of hitting him and getting him out of his game mentally," he explained. "‘Aww man. This is a long day. Guys putting a lot of hats on me.’ That’s what I meant. I didn’t mean I was happy to see the guy hurt.”
