Hip Hop mogul Jay-Z reportedly is interested in adding Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith to his arsenal.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports is one of five sports agencies that have recently pitched to Smith, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

The former West Virginia QB fired his former agents, Erik Burkhardt and Jeff Nalley of Select Sports Group, days after he was selected 39th overall by the Jets in April’s draft. Smith, however, denied in a Sirius radio interview that his draft-day drop was a factor in his decision.

Regardless of the reason, Smith is now in the market for new representation – and
Jay-Z isn’t the only one in the mix. Joel Segal of Lagardere Football, Eugene Parker of Relativity Sports, Rick Smith of Priority Sports and Fletcher Smith of Blueprint Sports Group have also pitched to Smith, according to PFT. NFL.com's Gil Brandt tweeted Thursday that Segal is the last of Smith's five interviews and Smith hopes to have hsi decision made by Friday -- when his mother, Tracey Sellers, comes to New York.

It’s important to note that Jay-Z isn’t a certified NFLPA agent, but he has teamed up with CAA Football. Per NFLPA rules, Jay-Z isn’t allowed to recruit or be a “runner” for any agents. But according to PFT, CAA was not involved in the recruiting process of Smith.

Jay-Z sparked controversy last month after Yahoo! Sports reported CAA agent Ben Dogra said Jay-Z helped bring Victor Cruz to the agency after the free-agent wideout fired Malik Shareef. The NFLPA talked to CAA about Jay-Z’s involvement in the Cruz situation but said it was “unlikely to be viewed as a violation” because of their “long-standing” friendship, according to Yahoo! Sports.
