Rex won't talk about possible 'misunderstanding' with Tebow

Rex Ryan again had a chance to end the speculation. And again, he chose not to.

A day after Tim Tebow blasted reports of him asking to sit out of the Wildcat last week, the Jets coach didn’t confirm the allegations or defend the character of his backup quarterback.

“Again, I’ll stand by exactly what I said," Ryan reiterated on Wednesday. "I believe if Tim would have been asked to do something, he would have gone into that game ands done it.”

Tebow, who spoke to Ryan on Tuesday and Friday, told reporters it’s possible Ryan misinterpreted their initial conversation.

“You work your whole life to build a reputation," the barely used backup said Wednesday, in response to multiple reports – citing several Jets sources – that he asked to be taken out of the Wildcat because he was frustrated over third-stringer Greg McElroy getting the start vs. the Chargers. "Then people try to bring you down when they don't understand even what happened. It's disappointing. You just want to express your side of the story."

But the Jets coach didn’t elaborate further on the topic.

To add insult to injury, Tebow has been passed over for the second time in a week. Ryan announced on Wednesday that McElroy hid concussion symptoms after last week’s loss and has been ruled out for the season-finale against Buffalo.

Mark Sanchez -- who was benched in favor of McElroy -- will get another chance to start.

“Right now, in this game, I feel like whatever we ask Tim to do, he’s going to do it,” said Ryan, who added that he can understand Tebow’s frustration. “Is he disappointed about not starting his game? Absolutely. But in my opinion, Tim will do whatever is asked of him.”
