Perhaps you’ve heard this before: Mark Sanchez is “excited” about the offensive system and confident about his play and his position heading into training camp.

A day after Jets great Joe Namath proclaimed Sanchez would be much improved in 2013, Sanchez agreed – and delivered a guarantee of his own.

“I just feel like this coaching staff is really going to get the best out of me,” the Jets quarterback said after Wednesday’s OTA.

“Just rededicating yourself to the game, rededicating yourself to your preparation and just being excited about this system and what it can do for a quarterback. I think just in these early stages, we’ve strung together a couple of good days of OTAs. We’ve just got to keep it rolling, stay positive and keep on improving. But I like our attitude, I like the coaching we’ve received and it’s only going to continue to grow and get better.”

In comparison, Sanchez had an abysmal 2012.

He had a 54.3 completion percentage (246-for-453) and threw for 2,883 yards, 13 TDs and 18 INTs in 15 games. He finished the year with a 66.9 QB rating.

Worse, he has an NFL-leading 52 turnovers over the past two years.

So was Tony Sparano’s flawed ground-and-pound game the root of Sanchez’s inconsistency?

“I don’t know about that,” the quarterback said, when asked if he was ‘hampered’ by last year’s system. “Each system has its own pros and cons, and a lot of that stuff is timing and there’s a million things that come into play. But at the end of the day, I’ve just got to worry about what I can control. Just come into work excited, competitive and have fun.”
