Jets coach Rex Ryan positively glowed on Friday afternoon when he declared his team’s injured players all were listed as probable for Sunday’s game against Oakland at MetLife Stadium. But his training staff must have thrown a red challenge flag.

After further review Friday evening, wide receiver Stephen Hill (knee) was downgraded from probable to questionable. The move came after some cryptic comments from Hill in the locker room regarding his physical status.

Asked if he was full speed, Hill said, “It all depends on how they [training staff] feel. It’s really not in the way I feel. It’s what they think. I really don’t have much [input]. We’re just playing it by ear until the game.”

Hill said the return of slot receiver Jeremy Kerley after a three-game absence to recover from a dislocated elbow, would help quarterback Geno Smith immensely. “It helps us out big to have that quick threat in the slot,” Hill said. “He does a great job of getting open and helping Geno get an open target.”

To the suggestion Smith might get rid of the ball quicker, Hill said, “I can’t speak on that. What Geno sees and what we see are two totally different things. We just have to make sure we get open for him as much as we can.”

Of course, the first step is making it to the starting gate.
