Quarterback David Garrard could be close to signing with Jets
The Jets could be close to signing free-agent quarterback David Garrard.
The news of an impending deal isn't surprising, considering the former Jaguar -- who last played in an NFL game in 2010 -- had a good workout with the Jets on Thursday and "will continue to talk" with the Jets, according to a source.
Garrard also has garnered interest from other NFL teams but the Jets appear to be at the top of his list, the source said, provided their salary-cap issues are squared away.
If a deal is completed, Garrard, 35, will compete in training camp with Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Matt Simms. Tim Tebow, the Jets' seldom-used backup quarterback last season, is not expected to return in 2013.
Garrard, an East Orange, N.J., native and 2009 Pro Bowler, threw for 16,003 yards, 89 touchdowns and 54 interceptions during his nine years with Jacksonville.
Flacco, Ravens agree
If the deal is finalized, he will receive in excess of $120 million over six years, according to a person close to the negotiations. Flacco would earn more than the $20-million average salary Drew Brees receives with the Saints. -- AP
