Sanchez's scrambling makes Jets brass edgy

Watch out, rook!

Mark Sanchez's lessons on the fly continue.

During the third play of the goal line drills yesterday, the rookie quarterback made a nice play-action fake and ran a naked bootleg right. LB Bart Scott had his eyes set on Sanchez and appeared as if he was about to lay into him before finally easing off.

Sanchez still dove for the right pylon, coming up just a bit short.

"Like I told the rook, 'Man, that's a bad career decision, because once you roll out, I might blank out and I don't know what the red jersey means sometimes,' " Scott said. "If you come toward me, I'm going to come toward you. But I blinked back into reality and I jumped out of the way."

Those in the Jets' front office likely collectively held their breath when Sanchez went all out with his dive.

Said Rex Ryan: "Even [Mike] Tannenbaum came over to me and [was like] 'Rex!' You know, the look on his face. And I'm like, 'I know. I know.' The next time Woody [Johnson] sees him do that, shoot, we're in trouble."

Training room

Injuries are slowly mounting for the Jets, although Ryan doesn't seem worried about any of them. FB Tony Richardson suffered a hip pointer on the second play of goal-line drills after he caught a pass from Kellen Clemens and was tackled by Scott. Richardson is expected to be out a few days . . . S Keith Fitzhugh's MRI revealed a bruised left rotator cuff. Ryan said it's painful but that he will be fine . . . Rookie RB Shonn Greene (ankle) was pedaling the stationary bike . . . DE Shaun Ellis still has general soreness in his hip, though Ryan said it's nothing that would keep him from playing . . . DT Kris Jenkins (strained left calf) remains sidelined.
