So, is Breno Giacomini back or not?

Jets head coach Todd Bowles isn’t sure if his right tackle will be able to practice next week, let alone play in their Week 1 matchup against Cincinnati.

“It’s just how he’s feeling day by day,” he said of Giacomini, who turns 31 on Sept. 27. “With a back [injury] you never know. Obviously if he’s not practicing this week, by a certain day, there’s probably a good chance he won’t play.”

Giacomini, who has been dealing with a lower back issue since early July, was on the physically-unable to perform list throughout training camp. Asked if there’s a chance the veteran could be put on PUP during the season, Bowles said: “There’s a chance. Checking with the doctors and the trainers. We’ve got to see how he’s feeling and what’s a projected time for him to be back or when’s the drop-dead last time for him to be back as opposed to when he won’t be back and we’ll weigh that option this week.”

Brent Qvale and Ben Ijalana have been splitting reps in Giacomini’s absence, but as of now, neither backup has the edge.

Said Bowles: “We’ll alternate them during the week and we’ll probably go right up until gameday, if Breno can’t play.”
