Uncertainty still hovers over the Jets.

The Monday firing of general manager Mike Tannenbaum has left many in the organization in limbo. And owner Woody Johnson has yet to provide any answers.

Aside from Monday's statement announcing Tannebaum's dismissal -- and Rex Ryan's retention -- Johnson hasn't addressed reporters since the Jets capped their 6-10 season Sunday with a 28-9 road loss to Buffalo.

Despite the silence from Johnson, his list of GM candidates continues to grow. Tuesday, FoxSports.com reported the Jets had requested permission from the Atlanta Falcons to interview Dave Caldwell, their director of player personnel. Caldwell, considered a rising talent in NFL circles, reportedly has interviewed with the Jaguars and is expected to speak with the Chargers.

The Jets also will interview former Browns GM Tom Heckert, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

In addition, the Jets have received permission to interview Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross and 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble. Assistant general manager Scott Cohen, who has worked under Tannenbaum since 2008, also will be considered, according to the New York Post.

Though Ryan received a vote of confidence from Johnson in his statement, his absence from the public eye has fueled speculation about his standing. Johnson said of the Jets coach: "I believe that he has the passion, the talent, and the drive to successfully lead our team." But Ryan's tenure is predicated on Johnson's GM hire.

Ryan's media session scheduled for 4:45 p.m. Monday at the team's facility was canceled that morning, as was his weekly afternoon appearance on ESPN radio. A team spokesman termed his absence "an organizational decision."
