ARIAN FOSTER
Running back, Texans

2011 stats: 278 carries, 1,224 yards, 10 TDs
2011 contract: $525,000
Foster, a restricted free agent, followed up his 1,616 yards in 2010 with 1,224 yards (fifth in the NFL) in 2011, proving he is one of the elite running backs in the NFL. In only 13 regular-season games, Foster rushed for 100 yards or more seven times, plus another two times in the postseason (153 yards vs. Bengals; 132 yards vs. Ravens). Foster, 25, also had 617 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The Houston Texans breathed a major sigh of relief after coming to terms on a five-year contract with running back Arian Foster. The deal was announced by Foster's agent, Mike McCartney, on his Twitter account early this morning.

The signing not only keeps Foster in a Texans uniform for the foreseeable future, but it frees them up to use their franchise tag on another player if they so choose. The Texans had hinted they would use the franchise tag on Foster, which would have kept him in a Houston uniform for at least the 2012 season.

Defensive end Mario Williams, the second overall pick in the 2006 draft, is slated to become a free agent on March 13. But the Texans may be hesitant to use the franchise tag on Williams, because the franchise tag would require them to pay him $22 million in 2012. The team is attempting to sign him to a new deal.
