For the NFL's 12 best teams, this is a time of great expectation. Playoff expectation.

For many of the other 20, it is a time of change.

Black Monday has arrived, the day when many underperforming coaches and executives get their walking papers.

In fact, it has already started. The Jaguars announced they have fired general manager Gene Smith. Head coach Mike Mularkey, on the job just one season, could get his pink slip, too. The Jags were a woeful 2-14.

Other coaches who are expected to be fired today: Romeo Crennel in Kansas City, Andy Reid in Philadelphia, Pat Shurmur in Cleveland and Norv Turner in San Diego.

And plenty more coaches are on the hot seat, including Lovie Smith in Chicago, Ron Rivera in Carolina, Chan Gailey in Buffalo, Mike Munchak in Tennessee, and Ken Whisenhunt in Arizona.

Stay tuned. It's going to be a busy day.
