Nick Folk will be getting some competition in training camp after all.

The Jets signed the well-traveled Billy Cundiff to a one-year deal today to compete with Folk when the team reports to training camp on Thursday. Folk had his best statistical season last year, converting 77.8 percent of his field goal attempts. But they still want to provide some competition.

To make room on the roster, the Jets released first-year free agent kicker Brett Maher.

Cundiff, 33, worked out on Monday and did enough to impress the coaches and get a contract. He has kicked for five different teams, most recently with the Redskins and 49ers last year. But the kick he'll be remembered for most was a missed 32-yard atempt in the final second of the 2011 AFC Championship Game. Cundiff's Ravens wound up losing to the Patriots.

Cundiff then lost a training camp competition last year in Baltimore to Justin Tucker, who was with the Ravens when they won the Super Bowl over the 49ers. Cundiff was signed as an insurance policy for David Akers in San Francisco, but he didn't kick in a game for the 49ers.
