Maybe Victor Cruz was right

Remember when Victor Cruz signed his $46-million contract extension earlier this year and suggested he was worth more, certainly as much as the top free-agent receivers on the open market? Well, he may have had a point.

Despite signing a deal that makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in franchise history, the numbers suggest Cruz, who is considered an elite slot receiver, is every bit as good as outside receiver Mike Wallace, who signed a $60-million deal with the Dolphins.

Consider: Since the 1970 NFL merger, Jerry Rice leads the league with nine touchdowns of at least 70 yards. Cruz, in his fourth year and only 26, already has seven. Cruz also has touchdowns of 69 and 68 yards.
