Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent, facing an intoxication manslaughter charge for a December car accident that killed Cowboys' practice squad linebacker Jerry Brown, has decided to retire to concentrate on his off-field problems.

Brent's trial is set for December, and he has failed two drug tests since being released on $100,000 bond after the accident. Both drug tests showed marijuana in his system. He was in all likelihood facing discipline from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had he decided to continue playing.
