Defensive end Mike Catapano has been turning heads in recent weeks, and if all goes right for the Bayville native, he could be the first Ivy League player selected in next month's NFL draft.
At least, that's what NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt thinks.
At his Princeton pro day March 20, Catapano worked out for representatives from 15 NFL teams, including the defensive line coach of...Read more »
The long list of teams that have tried and failed to build through free agency is ample proof that you can’t buy a championship in the NFL. But with the remarkable makeover the Chiefs have completed over the last few weeks, capped by a flurry of transactions over the past few days, you have to believe that this team will at least be capable of a swift turnaround from last year’s 2-14 calamity.

John Elway, the Broncos' director of football operations, is clearly miffed at the turn of events that has resulted in the team releasing linebacker Elvis Dumervil. And now it remains uncertain whether the team will bring back its talented pass rusher.
Here's Elway's explanation of what happened, per a team-issued statement.
“For the last week, Elvis Dumervil and his agent...Read more »
More good news for the Patriots.
More bad news for the Jets.
New England has another strong veteran presence in its secondary, as the Patriots signed safety Adrian Wilson, who had been released in a salary cap move by the Cardinals earlier this week.
It's a good signing for the Patriots, whose secondary has been a continued source of concern in recent years.

Like Brett Favre and Ryan Longwell before him, long-time Packers star Greg Jennings has joined the enemy. Or, in this case, the Vikings.
Jennings had hoped to remain with the Packers, but Green Bay declined to get into a bidding war with the Vikings and watched as their 30-year-old receiver traded the green-and-gold for the purple-and-white.
Jennings is certainly a terrific...Read more »
We've seen plenty of head-scratching transactions in the NFL, but none like this:
The Broncos reached an agreement with linebacker Elvis Dumervil on a restructured contract that would reduce his 2013 salary from $12 million to $8 million, but the transaction never came off because Dumervil and/or his agent, Marty Magid, failed to fax the paperwork over to the Broncos in time.

The NFL will take “a much more proactive and aggressive position” in certifying the maintenance of the fields its games are played on, a point of emphasis noted by NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Ray Anderson in today’s Competition Committee conference call.
The reason, although never explicitly stated as such, clearly stems from the condition of the turf at FedEx Field...Read more »
The Patriots took yet another step toward solidying their grip on the AFC East by signing former Jets return man Leon Washington, who had been released by the Seahawks.
Washington, 30, was with the Jets from 2006-09 and the Seahawks from 2010-12. The 5-8, 203-pound Washington was the Jets' fourth-round pick in 2006 and was traded to the Seahawks in 2010 for a fifth-round pick.

A handful of rules changes will be proposed at next week's NFL owners meetings in Phoenix.
Among the most important:
* The competition committee has agreed on a measure that would make it a penalty for any player to initiate contact with another player by lowering his head and using the crown of his helmet to make contact in the open field. This would not apply within the tackle...Read more »
Darrelle Revis is still a Jet. At least for now.
But with speculation still swirling the Jets are ready to unload their 28-year-old cornerback, who is still rehabbing from a torn ACL, the glut of cornerbacks on the open market may complicate things for the time being.
The Buccaneers are known to be interested in Revis; in fact, even after the team signed safety Dashon Goldson to...Read more »
