Annika Sorenstam was asked today for her unique perspective on Tiger Woods and the swirling fallout from his apologetic statement Friday.

Sorenstam's take is distinct because she is a friend fo Woods and for a while she was as dominant in women's golf as he is in men's golf.

On the other hand, Sorenstam is Swedish and also is friendly with Woods' wife Elin Nordegren, her countrywoman. So she treads a fine line.

Here's what Annika said today on the PGA Tour Network on XM Radio:

“It’s almost a little bit surreal, I must say.  I didn’t see his speech on TV.  I was on the golf course with Mia [Hamm].  Of course, I’ve heard a little bit and read about it.  I mean, I think it’s time for him to just do what he says he wants to do and let him heal and let’s get back to the game that he loves.  I mean, we need him.”
