Evan Bierne, who plays out of Bethpage and is preparing for his senior year at St. John's, will play for one of the most prestigious amateur titles in the country Sunday. Bierne will meet defending champion Cameron Wilson of Shorehaven in Connecticut in the 7:30 a.m. final of the Met Amateur.

          The Metropolitan Golf Association event  is being held at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale.Beirne advanced by beating Alex Edfort, 3 and 2, in the semifinal Saturday.

           “I played pretty solid today and Alex had a little bumpy start. It was the third match in a row that I went 2 up thru two,” Beirne said after the match. “As far as tomorrow, I will have to have my A-game. I am playing the defending champion so I obviously have to play well.”
