In a conference call to discuss the fact that Ping effectively waived its waiver--electing not to take advantage of a previous settlement that allowed Ping Eye2 irons to be used even though they don't meet current standards for clubface grooves--PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said this is neither a settlement nor an agreement.

"This was 100 percent a voluntary action by John Solheim and Ping," Finchem said.

Solheim, the chairman and CEO of Ping ,said, "We want fair competition throughout golf...We can go forward and not think about it, which is very important to the family, because I saw what my father went through years ago, and I didn't want that to happen again. To achieve what we achieved yesterday is really neat."
