Darrell Kestner on `Golf Fix' and leader board
Darrell Kestner is one of the top teachers anywhere, and the best evidence is in his own game. His lessons always have worked on him, allowing him to compete in 18 major championships.
It was quite cool to see Kestner, director of golf at Deepdale, talking putting on Golf Channel’s “The Golf Fix” with his former assistant Michael Breed. Kestner had some great advice: pretend the bottom half of your body is in a tight pickle barrel (Darrell is originally from West Virginia and knows from pickle barrels) and thus it never moves. And, most important, get some rhythm in that stroke.
This works. Don’t just take his word for it. Look at his scores. Through two rounds of the PGA Professional National Championship in Hershey, Pa., Kestner was tied for sixth at 5 under par. Very impressive, especially since Darrell is in the 50-and-over category, unlike many of the other club pros in the field.
His spot on “The Golf Fix” is worth watching. It is toward the end of the hour-long program that will air again at 10 Monday night and occasionally throughout the week.
