Fore Long Island

Long Island golf courses and golfers mixed with a splash of PGA and other pro tours.

Joe Saladino makes the cut at Mid-Am

When he finished a solid (but in his mind, slightly disappointing) 2-over par round at Atlantic Golf Club Saturday, Joe Saladino of Huntington said, “You’ve got to have a round to keep yourself in it, play steady tomorrow and hope that gets you through.”

He did just that. He shot 3-over par 75 at the Bridge Sunday and assured himself a shot in the match play section of the Mid-Amateur, which begins Monday at Atlantic. Saladino had also qualified for match play at the U.S. Amateur this year.

Scores are really high today at both courses, in the second day of stroke play qualifying. The top 64 qualify for match play and the cut is expected to be at 8- or 9-over.
