Three LIers make U.S. Mid-Am
Steve Tarulli of Rockville Centre shot par 71 at Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston, Connecticut Wednesday, and Chris Clarke of East Hampton and Brad Rock Jr. of Plainview shot 72 and 73, respectively, to qualify for the U.S. Mid-Amateur.
They were among five players who made it through a sectional qualifier for the national championship to be held in Richmond, Tex. Sept. 17-22. The Mid-Amateur was held last year on Long Island, at Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton.
The significance of the Mid-Am, for golfers 25 and older, is not only that it is one of the U.S. Golf Association’s championships. But it is that the winner traditionally is invited to the Masters. At Atlantic last year, Nathan Smith, who lives near Pittsburgh made his way to Augusta
Rock gained the final spot in a playoff with Dave Segot of Oyster Bay and Brian Hale of Middle Island.
