Tiger Woods has steady start
Tiger Woods has played steadily so far. He's at par through 10 holes, which isn't spectacular but not bad either. It is kind of in keeping with the opening rounds he has had in many majors that he has won.
Most telling perhaps is that he has not had any of the wild tee shots or poor chip shots that have marked his year. He made one birdie, on the tough par-3 sixth, drilling his tee shot within 10 feet and making the putt. He just bogeyed No. 10, missing a six-footer for par.
Otherwise, it has been all pars.
Rory McIlroy is in the lead, an impressive 6 under through 14 holes. Retief Goosen is the only other one to have reached 5 under, but he is back at 4 under now.
Phil Mickelson starts his round in eight minutes.
