Defending champ Jim Liu advances at U.S. Junior Amateur

Defending champion Jim Liu of Smithtown rallied after a 78 in the opening round of stroke play and shot 70 on Tuesday to qualify for the match play phase of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Bremerton, Wash. Liu will play Nicolo Galleti of Clayton, California Wednesday at 2:39 Eastern Time.

Gary Player to join Arnie, Jack as Masters Honorary Starter

       In the 1960s, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player dominated golf's majors and were seen as such a powerful group that they appeared in a regular TV series, "Big Three Golf." Tiger withdraws from British Open

Tiger Woods made it official today, announcing that he will not play in the British Open next week. That seemed obvious last week when Woods said during a news conference at the AT &T National, which he hosts, that he has not practiced at all and does not intend to play any golf until he feels 100 percent recovered from his knee and Achilles injuries.
