Eagles early Saturday at Barclays

Bill Haas and Rory McIlroy each have an eagle on the front nine at the Barclays today. Looks like there might be some low scores. It's not very windy and the course still doesn't seem so firm and fast. Ian Poulter, who started at even par, is 4-under through 11 holes. Haas eagled the par-5 third hole and had reached 3-under early but dropped a shot and is now 2-under....

Tiger bogeys a birdie hole

Tiger Woods lost ground on No. 5, a short par 4 that really is a birdie hole. He didn't go for the green with his tee shot but his layup wedge spun back and he had a long putt, which he missed. Then he went up and jabbed his 21-inch par putt. And missed that. He had to make a 3-footer for bogey, which really was like a double bogey.

Phil goes quietly, Tiger leads

PARAMUS, N.J.—Phil Mickelson went quietly.         One of the marquee golfers at The Barclays, who also is one of Barclays prime spokesmen, never did get anything going in the second round of the tournament at Ridgewood Country Club. He shot 3-over-par 74 in his second round to go 4-over for the event and almost assuredly...

Phil still seeking spark, Tiger tees off at 12:10

The round today for Phil Mickelson hasn't started much better than yesterday's. He has made some progress in the past couple of holes. He was 2-over for the day and 3-over for the Barclays but now he is even for the day and 1-over for the tournament here at  Ridgewood Country Club.

       No one...

Phil even through eight at Barclays

Phil Mickelson is playing a solid, albeit unspectacular round. He is at par through eighth holes at the Barclays. Tiger Woods and Vaughn Taylor still lead at 6 under. Scott Verplank might be able to make a run at them, inasmuch as he is four under and playing the front nine last. More birdie opportunities early on the front nine at Ridgewood Country Club....

Vaughn Taylor tied with Tiger

Vaughn Taylor is the first to admit that it is a surprise to see his own name tied at the top of the leader board on Day One of The Barclays. He is No. 38 on the FedEx Cup ponits list, which is not bad but not great. "The last couple of years I haven't played my greatest," he said. "I'm pleased with my position coming in, and...

It's all new for Tiger--the swing, too

Of course, this is a new life for Tiger Woods now that his divorce has been finazlized, annoucned and commented-upon by his now former wife. So The Barclays is his first tournament in the new phase.

To hear him talk about it, though, it's all about his new swing. He has been working with Sean Foley on a completely...

Tiger takes a quick lead

Tiger Woods isn't used to being in the first group out on a Thursday, but at this rate, he will be in the last group on Sunday. His seeding had him out there early. The course conditions here at Ridgewood CC are pristine and he took full advantage right away. He birdied four of his first eight holes and made the turn at 4-under. He's tied for the lead...

Tiger to get (really) early start Thurs.

Tiger Woods usually gets a sterling tee time, right in the middle of the field. not this week, though. He will be the first one to tee off on the first tee Thursday at The Barclays. He is in the 7:10 a.m. group at Ridgewood CC in Paramus, NJ, witih Cameron Beckman and Troy Matteson.

But that's what he gets for being so low on the FedEx...

Arjun Atwal, the former Clarke High and Nassau CC star, is 1 under par through three holes of the final round in Greensboro. He's 18-under-par and has a two stroke lead of the Wyndham Championship.

A win for Atwal would be huge for his career. He would gain a two-year Tour exemption, no small matter...
