TIP OF THE WEEK
Drive for show, putt for dough
"All good rounds of golf are achieved through good putting. If you are having trouble, try the approach that helped me qualify for the 2006 PGA Championship and has taken my game to the next level. I am an advocate of Bob Rotella's book 'Putting Out of Your Mind'."
"The approach is simple. First, pick your line and speed of the putt you want to hit. Stand next to the ball and take a practice stroke while looking at the hole. When looking at the hole, pick a small spot in the back of the hole that you would like to hit. Focus on that specific spot and take practice strokes while getting the feeling of hitting that spot. Next, step up to the ball and align your putter and feet without any conscious thought. After your last look at the hole, focus your eyes back to the ball and within 1-2 seconds pull the trigger!
"You will be amazed at how good your speed control is because you are now focused on where the ball is going and not how it gets there. The best part of this routine is that it works in all situations.
