When Joe Saladino won the Travis Invitational last year, adding the venerable international amateur tournament at Garden City Golf Club to his long list of titles, he figured he couldn't top that. Then he did.
Saladino, of Huntington, won the 103rd Travis recently, his second in a row, with high drama. In the final match against Mike Miller of Westchester, a U.S. Walker Cup candidate, he made a 60-foot putt in the rain on the third extra hole. It brought the Travis even closer to his heart and continued a roll for the 33-year-old. Saladino had won the prestigious Havemeyer at Southward Ho a week earlier.
