The nZone picks Long Island's best boys and girls golfers from the 2009 season.
Girls Golfer of the Year
Lee shot a 149 to win the Suffolk individual championship. In the state tournament, Lee birdied the 36th hole to win the title with a one-over 73 at Foxfire Golf Course in Baldwinsville, N.Y. She finished with a three-over 75 on Saturday for a two-day score of 148.
Clinton constantly puts herself in contention with good tee shots. She was runner-up in the county championship, and in the state tournament, she shot rounds of 80 and 73 to finish fourth.
Garden City, Junior
She shot an 11-over-par 83 to lead the Trojans as they repeated as Long Island Champions. In the state tournament, she finished tied for 42nd.
Smithtown West, Senior
Werner shot a two-day score of 163 at Sunken Meadow State Park to lead Smithtown West to its second straight county title. In the state tournament, she shot 80-83 to finish tied for 12th. She will attend Monmouth University on a golf scholarship.
Girls Coach of the Year
Guided the Trojans to their second straight Long Island championship, and third in four years, with a 459-474 win over Smithtown West at Eisenhower Red.
Boys Golfer of the Year
Dolan won the Suffolk Individual Golf Championship, besting more than 200 golfers by posting a two-day score of 142 at Indian Island Country Club in Riverhead. Dolan shot an 85 and an impressive 72 in Day 2 of the state tournament to finish tied for 24th.
Kings Park, Sophomore
Amicizia helped guided Kings Park to the county championship before shooting a 79 and 74 in the state tournament to finish tied for 14th -- which was the best finish for anyone Long Islander.
Brey, who has been on the golf team since the seventh grade, shot a 78 and 81 to help the talented Dalers win the Long Island Championship over Kings Park at Eisenhower Park's Red Course. Brey shot an 87 and 80 in the state final to finish tied for 60th.
West Islip, Senior
Keller finished second in the county championship (145) and 45th in the state tournament. Keller is a two-time all county, six-time all league golfer. He is going to Lehigh University.
Boys Coach of the Year
Berardi guided the Dalers to their first-ever county and LI championship. Berardi has been coaching 10 years.
