We'll spare you the suspense: Mike Delio did not strike out all the batters he faced Thursday.
The feat Delio accomplished in his first varsity start last week would have been almost impossible to duplicate -- not that he didn't try.
The righthander pitched a one-hitter with three walks and 14 strikeouts for Carle Place in a 14-1 win over East Rockaway in Nassau BC baseball. It was the junior's first start since throwing a perfect game in which he struck out all 21 batters on April 1 against Hempstead. Delio carried a no-hitter into the seventh before surrendering a one-out RBI single up the middle. He lost the perfect-game bid with a walk in the third inning.
"The feeling is indescribable and you're just hoping he can pound through and do it again," Frogs coach Brian Krummenacker said of Delio, who threw 77 pitches. "Even though it wasn't a perfect game, what he's done is still amazing."
