Chris Stein, Tonimarie Valeriano throw no-hitters

Senior Chris Stein tossed a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks as Bethpage topped Island Trees, 2-0, Monday in a Nassau Conference A-III baseball game.

The lefthander featured a sharp curveball and a fastball in the mid-to-high 80s, Bethpage coach Rob Fisher said.

Jake Vera's RBI single in the second inning scored Nick Marino, who later added a run-scoring single that provided the final margin for the Golden Eagles.

Just call her Valeriano-no: Junior Tonimarie Valeriano threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks as Mepham beat Long Beach, 2-0, in a Nassau Conference AA-I softball game Monday.

The junior utilized her drop and screwball throughout the game, coach Mike Muscara said. Alexa Morris had a two-run triple in the fifth inning to lead Mepham.
