LIVE BLOG: CHSAA championship Game 2 - Holy Trinity vs. St. Anthony's

Game 2 is underway as Holy Trinity looks for its second NSCHSAA championship in three season. St. Anthony's looks to force a Game 3.

Patrick Madigan is on the mound for Holy Trinity.

Top 1: 

The Friars start off well. Steve Giustino walked with one out and scored on a two-out double from David Grieneveld, who hit a liner down the leftfield line. The Friars lead 1-0.

John Sostarich is on the mound for the Friars.

Bottom 1: Tyler Kapela reaches on a one-out error and with two outs, he takes off for second. The shortstop went to cover the bag and Madigan hit it right where the shortstop was for a single. Holy Trinity gets a big break. Shortstop Matthew Costleigh make an errant throw to first and Kapela and pinch runner Christopher Merola scored. There's a lot of room in foul territory allowing both runs to score. On almost any other field, one run scores.

Top 2: Madigan does a great job retiring the side in order after his team gave him two runs.

Bottom 2: Peter Scacco tripled to right-center with two outs. Parenty flied out to right to end the inning.

Top 3:  Steve Giustino blooped a single to rightfield with two outs. Paul Britt fouls out to rightfield.

Bottom 3:  Madigan singles with two outs for his second hit of the game. Christopher Merola is the pinch runner and takes off. Sostarich has him picked off with a throw to first, but Merola beats the throw to second for a stolen base. DeVito flies to right to end the inning.

Top 4:  Michael D'Acunti singled with one out and steals second base. Brian Tinney singles to leftfield with D'Acunti stealing third and he scoresd easily to tie the score at 2. Nick Gargan reached on a bunt single to put runners at first and second base. Madigan gets a fly out and pop-up to end the inning.

Bottom 4: Sostarich works around a two-out walk to keep the score tied. He's done a good job after allowing two unearned runs in the first.

Top 5: Giustino led off with a single up the middle. Paul Britt lined a shot to the right-centerfield gap with the runner going and it goes for an RBI triple. The Friars take a 3-2 lead. Groeneveld was intentionally walked. With two outs, Groeneveld was caught in a run down, and chased back to first. The throw went home and Britt beat the throw for a double steal. Tinney singled to centerfield to extend the lead to 5-2. Thomas Brengel comes in to relieve Madigan. He gets a pop-up to end the inning.

St. Anthony's 5, Holy Trinity 2

Bottom 5: Parenty leads off with a single and goes to second on a throwing error. With one out, Costleigh makes a great play to get a ball going up the middle, spun and made a great throw to first for the second out. It saved a run and a pop-up ended the inning.

Top 6: The Friars get two runners on, but don't score.

Bottom 6: After a two-out walk, Sostarich gets a pop-up to end the inning.

Top 7: Brengel gets the first two out before Tinney singles for his third single of the game. Pinch runner Alexander Massotto was balked to second and scored on a single by Nick Gargan. James Maguire is the pinch runner and steals second base.A pop-up ends the inning.

St. Anthony's 6, Holy Trinity 2

Bottom 7: With two outs, Kapela reaches on an error and goes to second on defensive indifference. Rosati singles to keep it alive. A grounder ends it.

Game 3 is Tuesday 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist.
