Nick Persad throws no-hitter

There hasn't been many high points for the Central Islip baseball team, especially the last two seasons when it went 1-39 in league play. This could be the year things get better.

Senior Nick Persad threw a no-hitter, walked three and struck out six and Stephen Morales went 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs for Central Islip in a 5-0 win over Bay Shore today. Central Islip is 2-1 in League II.

It was the first no-hitter in at least 20 years, according to coach Joe Esposito.

"He was light out," Central Islip coach Esposito said of Persad. "He threw a lot of strikes and was in control."

Persad threw 98 pitches.

"We're confident we'll be more competitive than we have been in the past," Esposito said. "We hope to build on this."
