Not only is the Oceanside-Massapequa a good series between two of the perennial contenders in Nassau Class AA, but the third game of the series will be used to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Long Island.

The North Babylon baseball team will honor Dan Gambardella tomorrow when the team hosts Copiague at 4 p.m. Gambardella and his friend Larry Scuderi were on their way to work and were killed by a drunk driver on the Wantagh State Parkway on April 30, 2011.

If you like pitching duels, one of the best I have seen took place today at MacArthur between MacArthur and Hicksville. MacArthur Joe Chiaramonte pitched eight innings and allowed one hit, walked two and struck out 11. He threw 98 pitches.

Upper Room’s Ramon Laureano pitched a no-hitter and just missed a perfect game last Monday at the Masters School in West Simsbury, Conn. He lost the the bid for a perfect game when he walked a batter with one out in the seventh.
“After the walk, I thought I should’ve struck him out,” Laureano said. “It feels good because I have a lot of confidence in myself, I knew I was throwing good.”

It is only April, but it felt like a playoff game between Wantagh and Plainedge this afternoon. It was an exciting game between two of the top teams in Nassau Class A and Wantagh eked out a 5-4 win on the road.

Holy Trinity starting pitcher Anthony Rosati left Wednesday’s 8-2 win at St. Anthony’s after the second inning because of a blister on his right foot.
According to coach Bob Malandro, Rosati has had the blister for a little over a week, and experienced too much discomfort to continue in Wednesday’s game. Rosati allowed two runs in the two innings he pitched.
