Brentwood boys soccer moves to second in country

Junior defender Jeffrey Medina scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Carlos Escobar with 31 minutes left as No. 5 Brentwood (14-2-1) beat No. 12 Bay Shore in the first round of the Class AA Suffolk boys soccer playoffs. Raul Bonilla made two saves for his 11th shutout of the season. Brentwood will play at No. 4 Ward Melville at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

The Brentwood boys soccer team is ranked second in the country in the latest NSCAA boys soccer high school poll. Brentwood (16-0) was ranked three last week and is now just behind St. Benedict's Prep (Newark).

Top-seeded Brentwood (16-0) will host No. 17 Huntington in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs at 2 p.m. Thursday. Brentwood is aiming to win its fifth consecutive Class AA county championship.
