Dear Hannah Burnett,
That is all.
Newsday High School Sports
(Can you guess the leading item in Girls Who Runs This World?)
Hannah Burnett, Huntington – The numbers…oh, the numbers. Burnett had five goals and seven assists against Bellport, six goals and two assists against Kings Park and five goals and two assists against Glenn. Granted, only one of those games was close, but she came up big THERE, too. With Huntington down by one with 20 seconds left, she scored to force overtime – a game the Blue Devils eventually won on Alyssa Amorison’s goal off an Alexis Thompson assist with two minutes left in the second OT frame.
Final numbers: 15 goals, 15 assists, one sweet, sweet week.
Kyra Harney, Bay Shore – Harney scored five goals twice this week, but it’s the teams she did it against that set her apart: Northport and Middle Country. She added three against Wantagh. What does it all mean? Oh, nothing. Just that Bay Shore has a firm hold on first place, and continues to be the team to beat in Suffolk.
Courtney Murphy, Floyd – Yeah, yeah. I know her team lost against Ward Melville. But…um…did you see what she did? Ten goals. Floyd lost 19-12 and Murphy scored ten of them. Against the defending Class A semifinalist. Sheesh.
Kyle Larkin, Sachem East – Goalie love! Larkin had nine saves in a one-goal win against West Babylon, including a flurry of stops in the last 50 seconds to win the game for Sachem East. Doing that against Sam Apuzzo and the Geiersbach sisters (Sam and Jess) is no joke.
Kylie Ohlmiller, Islip – Nine goals and four assists in a 17-14 win against Glenn and added four goals in a loss to Bayport-Blue Point. Girl was everywhere.
Shelby Fredericks, Babylon – I’m pretty sure she’s been on here every week this season. I’m running out of quippy things to say about her. It doesn’t matter. The production speaks for itself: Six goals and seven assists against Harborfields.
Sydney Pirreca, Mount Sinai – Here’s another one who’s testing my powers of creativity. She’s good (see here). This week, she was really good: She had five goals and an assist over Miller Place and seven goals and two assists against Rocky Point.
Alexis Maffucci had four goals and six assists for Hills over Connetquot….Sachem North’s Jessica Mazliah had five goals and four assists against Longwood…Greenport/Southold/Mattituck’s Katie Hoeg finished the week with 18 points, including five goals and four assists against Bellport…Giuliana Rizzoti, Whitman, scored 15 points, with six goals in a win over Riverhead.
