Kellenberg boys shine at North Shore Invitational
Friday night’s North Shore Invitational at the Armory saw a ton on LI runners take home top honors. The meet featured a large amount of LI schools, giving locals a chance to shine on the New York City stage.
Kellenberg cleaned up in the 600-meter run, registering three top 15 finishes. Dylan Murphy won the event in 1:21.14, Randall Turner finished sixth in 1:23.94 and James Malebranche ran in 1:28.19 to take 15th.
Shoreham-Wading River’s Jordan Wright won the 55-meter dash in 6.60 seconds. North Babylon’s Jordan Meyers finished third, posting a 6.69.
Tom Meehan of Eastport-South Manor won the 1000-meter run in 2:33.60. Half Hollow Hills East’s Jake Burcham came in third, finishing in 2:36.82.
North Shore’s Ben Kapuscinski continued his impressive beginning to the 2012-2013 season. Kapuscinski’s 4:30.36 finish in the 1600 was good for second.
Whitman’s Michael Damato won the 3200-meter invitational. His time of 9:25.42 edged Calhoun’s Jack Curran by 0.15.
A duo of East Meadow Athletes dominated the 55 hurdles. Kyle Bettex won the event in 8.04 seconds and Rob Bergman came in second, finishing in 8.17 seconds.
Smithtown West’s Mike McCann jumped six feet, nine inches winning the high jump. His teammate, Devin Mirenda won the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 11 inches. Benjamin Bonhurst, also from Smithtown West, won the shot put, throwing 54 feet, three and a quarter inch.
